Banking in Czech Republic

Compare banks, fees, and find the best option for foreigners

💡 Tips for foreigners opening a bank account:

  • Open Fio banka first — it's the easiest for foreigners. EU citizens at any branch; non-EU need passport + valid residence permit.
  • You'll need a Czech address for most bank accounts — get your registration (přihlášení k pobytu) first
  • Keep Revolut or Wise as a secondary account for international transfers — Czech banks charge high fees
  • Most Czech banks require an in-person visit with your passport and residence permit
  • Ask specifically about 'cizinecký účet' (foreigner account) — some banks have special packages

⚠️ Warning: Cryptocurrency Transactions & Czech Bank Accounts

  • Czech banks actively monitor transfers to/from crypto exchanges (Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, etc.).
  • Your account can be frozen or closed without warning if suspicious crypto-related activity is detected.
  • Banks may demand explanation of the source of funds — failure to explain can result in a permanent account ban.
  • If you trade crypto, consider using a dedicated account (e.g. Wise or Revolut) separate from your main Czech bank account.
  • Czech law requires reporting crypto gains — consult a tax advisor if you have significant crypto income.
